Firings in the Rio de Janeiro unit. – April 2008 (from Chemical Workers union in Bahia, Brazil)
Our union is in solidarity with the 15 workers at the plant in Barra Mansa, in Rio de Janeiro who were fired. Many of these workers had up to 20 years at the company, and were close to retirement. This shows DuPont’s lack of social responsibility and also the exploitation practiced by the company. In this case, DuPont fired experienced workers and contracted new workers at much lower salaries. The DuPont workers’ network is preparing to protest the firings to stop DuPont’s intent to implement a salary reduction policy. |
